Casimiro Dos Santos, was born in Luro, Lospalos District on 8 April 1976. During Indonesian occupation, he pursued his studies in Jember University, East Java – Indonesia. He returned to Timor Leste in 1999 and worked with UNTAET as electoral assistant during Referendum. He was subsequently transferred to take a new role as Investigation and Intelligence assistant in Lospalos. While in Lospalos, he was actively involved in youth programs where he was assuming as General Secretary of Youth Organization in Lospalos District. He was also a co-evaluator for the Agricultural Project, which was funded by AUSAID before moving to Serious Crimes Unit in 2002. He then enrolled in Dili University (Now UNPAZ) studied International Relations. He further moved to worked with Advocate Sans Fronteiras (Lawyers Without Borders) as Administration Assistant. In 2004, he worked with JSMP as Legal Researcher and was later appointed to be Legal Research Coordinator in 2006. In 2007 until present, he has been assuming the position as Deputy Director at JSMP. He is also currently lecturing at the Universidade da Paz in international law and gender.
He has attended numerous international events such as Conferences, Seminars and workshops. He first attended an International Conference on Transitional Justice in Post Conflict Society, which was organized by ICTJ in England, Wilton Park. In 2007, he participated the first workshop on National Human Rights Institution that was organized by FORUM-ASIA. In 2009, he presented a paper on Special Panel for Serious Crimes: Progresses and Challenges in a Seminar that was held in Cambodia. In 2009, he attended a conference on Asia Pacific Forum in Sidney. In 2010, he also participated a workshop on Transitional Justice in Bali, Indonesia. In 2011, he presented a paper on Judicial Monitoring in East Timor: Progresses and Challenges. This paper was delivered in a Seminar that was organized by 18 May Memorial Foundation in South Korea.
Besides participating in above-mentioned events, he has also attended training on Gender Sensitivity, Fundraising, Regional and international Human Rights mechanisms, Human Resource Management, financial management, training on writing project proposal and report. |
